CNN —Nearly the entire population of California remains under flood alerts as the rain-soaked state braces for more precipitation and officials urge people to try to stay off the roads early this week. Officials are concerned about “excessive runoff from moderate to heavy rain,” which may lead to flooding, according to a post from the city on X. The National Weather Service office in Sacramento implored residents to have a means to get weather alerts and said threats on Monday include: brief tornadoes, large amounts of small hail, heavy rain, lightning and gusty winds. The weather service said 3 to 5 feet of snow are possible where altitudes are 9,000 feet or above. “We know this is silly; we know this is fun,” said Marcy Galando, executive director of the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club. Members of Punxsutawney Groundhog Club, organized in 1899, care for Phil at a customized space beside Punxsutawney Memorial Library — where there's a window with a view into the creature's burrow. The Punxsutawney groundhog makes predictions but he's not always predictable. In 1998, a groundhog club leader wearing a $4,000 groundhog suit reported being assaulted by a half-dozen young men. Intended to preserve Pennsylvania German culture and traditions, clubs would sometimes fine those who were caught speaking anything but their Pennsylvania Dutch language at meetings.

WASHINGTON (AP) — A former Fox News reporter says in a lawsuit he was targeted and fired for pushing back against false claims about the riot at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. A spokeswoman for Fox News did not immediately return an email message seeking comment on the lawsuit. Donner also debunked Tucker Carlson’s “Patriot Purge," a program on the Fox Nation streaming service that argued Jan. 6 was used as a pretext for persecution of conservative Americans. The lawsuit was first filed in Washington’s Superior Court Sept. 27 and subsequently moved to federal court. Fox also faced a lawsuit from Dominion Voting Systems and paid nearly $800 million this year to settle the case alleging that Fox knowingly promoted false conspiracy theories about the security of its voting machines.

A former Fox News reporter has sued the conservative network, accusing it of discrimination and retaliation for firing him after he spoke out against “false coverage” of the 2020 U.S. election and the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the Capitol, according to court filings. Jason Donner, who worked for Fox News as a reporter and producer for 12 years, claimed in the lawsuit that he had been targeted after continually raising concerns with his managers about false statements allowed on the air. The lawsuit was filed in Superior Court of the District of Columbia on Sept. 27 and transferred to U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia on Monday. Mr. Donner had covered Capitol Hill for Fox News since 2018. He was hiding with other reporters in news booths when he heard that Fox was reporting that the attack was “peaceful,” he said.

I have to admit that Jon Batiste is married to one of my best friends, so I am biased. But this song is earwormy while also reminding you to hydrate, and who could say no to that combo? You listen to the song, you get it stuck in your head, you drink water.
